Malaysia’s total trade with Indonesia increased by 4%
to RM61.07 billion. Indonesia improved its ranking
from 9th to 6th position as Malaysia’s largest export
destination. Increase in exports were contributed by
refined petroleum products, which grew by
RM5.91 billion to RM12.05 billion, chemicals &
chemical products RM5.06 billion; machinery,
appliances & parts RM2.89 billion, and processed
food RM1.41 billion.
Imports from Indonesia, registered a decrease of
10.1% to RM27.96 billion. The decline was mainly
due to lower imports of palm oil, E&E products and
manufactures of metal.
Trade with Thailand expanded 7.2% to RM78.60 billion,
with exports registering an increase of 6.1% and
imports 8.4%. Double digit growth was seen in exports
of optical & scientific equipment, transport equipment,
iron & steel products, manufactures of plastics, textiles
& clothing and petroleum products.
Exports of E & E products to Thailand increased by
7.7% to RM13.4 billion contributed by higher exports of
parts and accessories for Automatic Data Processing
(ADP) machines to meet the rising demand in the ICT
sector. Other sectors that showed increase in exports
were chemicals & chemical products, machinery,
appliances & parts, optical & scientific equipment and
transport equipment.
Malaysia’s imports from Thailand valued at
RM38.68 billion, comprised mainly parts and
accessories for computers, vehicles for transport of
goods, crude rubber, parts for generators, generating
sets and rotary converters.

Total trade with Lao PDR doubled in 2013 to RM8
million from RM4 million in 2012. Manufactured goods
accounted for 98.6% of Malaysia’s total exports valued
at RM7.1 million comprising electrical & electronic
products, textiles & clothing, transport equipment,
chemicals & chemical products and machinery
appliances & parts.
Imports from Lao PDR rose 192.5% to reach RM4
million compared to RM1.4 million in 2012. Main
imports were crude rubber, hides, skins & furskins,
saw logs & sawn timber, seafood as well as beverages
and tobacco.

Vietnam became Malaysia’s 13th largest trading
partner with total trade of RM32.35 billion, an increase
of 15.9% from 2012. Exports were valued at RM13.33
billion, recording an increase of 12.9% while imports
grew by 18.1% to RM19.02 billion.
Inter and intra firm linkages particularly among
multinational companies operating in the region
contributed to the increase in demand for E&E
products which accounted for more than 25% of
Malaysia’s exports to Vietnam.
Imports from Vietnam expanded by 18.1%, consisting
of E&E products mainly microprocessor and controller,
valued at RM8.77 billion, or 46.1% share of Malaysia’s
total imports from Vietnam. Other imports included
crude petroleum and crude rubber.

Malaysia’s total trade with Cambodia reached
RM1.38 billion in 2013, an increase of 16.2%
from 2012 valued at RM1.17 billion.
Exports declined by 3.5% to RM742.4 million from
RM769.3 million in 2012. Top exports to Cambodia
were textiles and clothing, beverages, transportation
equipment, processed food, and chemicals &
chemical products.
Imports from Cambodia increased by 54.4% valued
at RM613.3 million from RM397.1 million in 2012. Top
imports were crude rubber at RM194.6 million and
cereal at RM152 million, accounting for 31.7% and
24% of total imports, respectively.
Cambodia
Trade with Myanmar expanded by 5.2% to RM2.89
billion from RM2.74 billion in 2012. Exports to
Myanmar increased by 3.9% to RM2.26 billion while
imports by 10.1% to RM624 million. Top five exports
were palm oil, absorbing 30% share of total exports,
followed by refined petroleum, chemicals and chemical
products, processed food and machinery appliances
and parts. Imports valued at RM0.62 billion comprised
mainly of crude rubber at 34.9% of total imports;
vegetables, roots, tubers at 19.3%; seafood, 12.3%;
saw logs and sawn timber, 10.2% and processed
food, 7.8%.
