Trade with EU accounted for 9.9% of Malaysia’s total
trade in 2013, an increase of 6.3% from the previous
year to reach RM135.79 billion. Pockets of recovery in
mid 2013 in the Euro zone boosted exports to the EU.

circuits remained the leading imports, accounting for
22.2% of Malaysia’s total imports from the region.
Other major imports were transport equipment,
machinery, appliances and parts, as well as chemicals
and chemical products.
The European Union (EU)
Imports from the Netherlands grew by 7.9% to reach
RM5.41 billion. Major imports from the Netherlands
were refined petroleum products, E & E products,
Malaysia’s trade with the Netherlands in 2013
expanded by 10.8% to RM26.12 billion from RM23.57
billion registered in 2012.
Within the EU, the Netherlands was the largest export
market, representing 31.7% share of Malaysia’s
exports to the EU. Exports increased by 11.6% to
RM20.72 billion.
Within the EU, Germany was Malaysia’s largest trading
partner, 2nd largest export destination and ranked
1st as Malaysia’s source of import. Malaysia’s trade
with Germany in 2013 was valued at RM39.42 billion.
Exports to the country grew by 3.1% to RM16.51
billion while imports decline by 1.3% to RM22.91
billion.
Increase in exports to Germany were recorded
for E & E products which expanded to RM9.14
billion. This was followed by optical and scientific
equipment (RM1.59 billion), rubber products (RM1.05
billion), transport equipment (RM442.77 million) and
manufactures of plastics (RM145.03 million).
Imports from Germany decreased by 1.3% to
RM22.91 billion. Major imports comprised of E & E
products, machinery, appliances & parts and transport
equipment accounting for 32.2%, 19% and 14.2%,
respectively.
