Major export destinations within North East Asia in
2013 were People’s Republic of China (PRC) and
Japan. These countries contributed RM176.72 billion
or 69.2% share of total exports to the region.
The increase in exports to the region was contributed
by higher exports of manufactures of metal (
RM6.15
billion), LNG (
RM3.06 billion), chemicals and
chemical products (
RM1.2 billion), refined petroleum
Malaysia’s trade with North East Asia grew by 5%
to RM490.67 billion contributing 35.8% share to
Malaysia’s total trade. Exports to the region increased
products (
RM946.21 million) and E & E products
(
RM535.38 million).
Imports from North East Asia represented 36.3%
share of Malaysia’s total imports in 2013. Major
imports comprised of E & E products, machinery,
appliances & parts, manufactures of metal, chemicals
and chemical products, as well as iron and steel
products.
North East Asia
Accounting for 14.8% of Malaysia’s total trade, PRC
for the fifth successive year remained as Malaysia’s
largest trading partner in 2013. Trade with PRC
grew by 12.5% to RM203.23 billion. Exports to PRC
increased by 9.2% to RM96.97 billion accounting for
13.5% share of total exports while imports rose by
15.7% to RM106.26 billion or 16.4% of Malaysia’s
total imports. PRC was Malaysia’s largest import
source.
More than 70% of Malaysia’s exports to PRC were
manufactured goods which increased by 9.5% in
2013. E & E products valued at RM40.22 billion
Trade with Japan, Malaysia third largest trading
partner, declined by 6.6% to RM136.11 billion. Exports
declined by 4.4% to RM79.75 billion. LNG accounted
for 50.4% of exports to Japan.
Higher exports were seen for transport equipment
which expanded by 39.5%, with higher demand for
aircraft associated equipment & parts, as well as parts
accounting for 41.5% of total exports to PRC.
Other main exports were chemicals & chemical
products, manufactures of metal, rubber products
and machinery, appliances and parts. Exports of
commodity represented 14.1% of total exports to
PRC with palm oil as the largest contributor valued at
RM9.2 billion.
Manufactured goods constituted 94.3% of Malaysia’s
total imports from PRC. Main import items were
E & E products namely electronic integrated circuits,
parts and accessories for computers, cellular phones,
TV reception apparatus, industrial and laboratory
electrical furnaces and ovens.
and accessories for motor vehicles plus textiles &
clothing by 4%.
Imports from Japan were valued at RM56.36 billion or
8.7% share to Malaysia’s total imports. Major imports
were E & E products, refined petroleum products and
machinery, appliances & parts.
