Textiles and clothing accounted for 1.4% share of
Malaysia’s exports of manufactured goods. Exports
of textiles & clothing were valued at RM10.3 billion,
an increase of 7.9%. Of this, exports of textiles
accounted for 61.9% share with a value of RM6.3
billion. Both these sub-sectors registered increases in
exports by 6.2% and by 10.9%, respectively.
Top 5 export markets for textiles & clothing were
USA, accounting for 19.6% share of total exports,
followed by Japan with 7.9%, PRC 5.4%, Turkey
6.6% and Indonesia with 5.4% share. Export value for
these markets were RM2.01 billion, RM809.8 million,
RM678.8 million and RM557.4 million, respectively.
Main exports of textiles were textile yarn, special yarns
(special textile fabrics & related products), woven
fabrics of man-made textile materials, textile and
synthetic fibres.

Malaysia’s total exports of processed food
were valued at RM14.24 billion, an increase of
6.9% compared to RM13.32 billion registered
in 2012. Major exports of processed food were
food ingredients, including for functional and
health food, valued at RM4.78 billion, followed
by cocoa and cocoa preparations, cereals &
flour preparations, margarine & shortening, dairy
products and confectionery each valued at
RM3.26 billion, RM1.83 billion, RM0.97 billion,
RM0.96 billion and RM0.89 billion, respectively.
Major markets for food and beverages were
Australia, which expanded by 60.4%, Singapore,
Indonesia and PRC.

Exports of transport equipment were valued at RM9.63 billion with major export
destinations being Singapore, USA and UK. For these markets, higher demand
for aircraft parts and components pushed up exports. Thailand recorded higher
exports of passenger motor vehicles parts and components. Exports of passenger
motor vehicles to Thailand and Indonesia increased significantly by 55.8% to
RM0.79 billion.
Major exports for transport equipment were parts and accessories of motor vehicle
valued at RM2.88 billion, aircraft & associated equipment & parts at RM2.39 billion,
and passenger motor vehicles at RM0.97 billion, each accounting for 29.9%,
24.8% and 10% share of total exports of transport equipment.
Furniture accounted for 1.02% of Malaysia’s total exports in 2013, with an export
value of RM7.4 billion. Wooden furniture accounted for 79% of total exports of
furniture valued at RM5.8 billion, followed by motor vehicle seats and parts, metal
furniture and plastic furniture, each contributing 9.3%, 7.5% and 0.3% respectively.
Top export destinations for Malaysia’s wooden furniture in 2013 were USA, Japan,
Australia, Singapore, United Kingdom, UAE, Canada, India and Saudi Arabia.
Substantial growth to exports were seen in FTA partner countries namely Republic
of Korea, Chile, PRC, New Zealand and Australia.
Among exports that recorded significant growth were motor vehicles seats, which
expanded by 58.2% to RM44.2 million. Main exports markets for motor vehicles
seat were Vietnam and PRC which grew by 885.8% and 313%, respectively.
Transport Equipment
Furniture
Exports of jewellery increased by 8.6% to RM7.73 billion and the sector
accounted for 1.1% share of total exports of manufactured goods.
Within this sector, jewellery of gold, silver and platinum was the main export
item valued at RM7.23 billion. It registered an increase of 16.6% with a share
of 93.5% of total jewellery exports. The increase was due to higher uptake by
leading export markets such as the UAE and Singapore and the increasing
purchases of jewellery for investment purposes due to lower gold prices.
UAE remained the largest export market for jewellery, recording a growth
of 19.6% valued at RM5.06 billion and accounted for 65.4% share of total
jewellery exports. Singapore was Malaysia’s second largest export market for
jewellery of gold, silver and platinum with a share of 20.3% of total exports
valued at RM1.57 billion.
Both UAE and Singapore continued to be the main distributing centres for
Malaysian jewellery.
