Among major exports to the region were palm oil
valued at RM10.07 billion or 26.3% share of total
exports; crude petroleum, RM5.87 billion; E & E
products, RM5.1 billion; chemicals & chemical
products, RM3.8 billion and refined petroleum
products, RM3.76 billion. Exports to Bangladesh
recorded a significant growth of 7.7% to RM5.01
billion.
South Asia accounted for 4.1% of Malaysia’s total
trade. Trade with South Asia registered RM55.89
billion, an increase of 0.4% over the previous year.
Imports from South Asia increased by 35% to
RM17.64 billion. More than 90% imports were sourced
from India. Other import sources were Pakistan and
Bangladesh with 3.9% and 1.6% share, respectively.
Main imports were refined petroleum products,
chemicals & chemical products, live animals and
meat, manufactures of metal, cereals and iron & steel
products.

India’s sustained its position as Malaysia’s largest
trading partner within South Asia and accounted for
3.1% share of Malaysia’s total trade. Trade with india
expanded by 2.4% to RM42.12 billion with exports
registering RM25.74 billion and imports at RM16.38
billion.
Major exports were crude petroleum valued at
RM5.87 billion or 22.8% share of total exports to India,
followed by palm oil at RM5.4 billion, E & E products
at RM4.53 billion and chemicals & chemical products
at RM2.82 billion, each registering shares to total
exports of 21%, 17.6% and 10.9%, respectively.
India
Trade with Bangladesh registered RM5.29 billion,
an increase of 8.5%. Exports recorded a significant
growth of 7.7% with value of RM5.01 billion. Major
Trade with Pakistan declined by 9.3% to RM5.91
billion. Both exports and imports decreased by 9%
to RM5.22 billion and 11.6% to RM689.85 million,
respectively.
