As Myanmar continues with political and economic
reforms, the country is experiencing a boom in the
construction sector. In respond to this, the Specialised
Marketing Mission on Construction & Related Services
to Yangon was organised aimed at enabling Malaysian
companies to engage with major project owners
involved in Myanmar’s development. The misson
was succesful in securing RM337 million for contract
financing, property development and architectural
consultancy services.

A resounding success at Showcase Malaysia in Yangon
when the single country exhibition, participated by 68
companies, generated sales and projects amounting
to RM213.4 million. Exhibitors in the products section
negotiated deals worth RM110.8 million while RM102.5
million were secured by the services sector for projects
including design and construction of chase vessels,
franchise business, executive healthcare screening
services, consultancy on environmental services and
logistic services. Among products sourced were building
system, switches, hair care products, biscuits and
cookies.

In-conjunction with the Trade & Investment Mission to Myanmar
which was led by YB Minister of International Trade & Industry,
a Marketing Mission on Oil & Gas was organised jointly with
Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation to Yangon and Nay
Pyi Taw. The delegation comprising 29 representatives from
14 companies had a business networking session, individual
business meetings with Myanmar Investment Commission and
Myanmar Oil & Gas Enterprise.
The mission successfully secured business contracts valued at
RM1.19 billion. Among top contracts were for construction of
LNG regasification terminal for regenerating energy and electricity
in Myanmar, design and engineering works for the construction
of LNG terminal, wire line services, oil and gas automation and
maintenance services and pipeline maintenance services.

The 34 member delegation on the mission to Yangon and Nay Pyi
Taw, realised various business opportunities in this fast emerging
market. The 138 individual business meetings arranged between
delegation members and the Myanmar companies and organisations
resulted in contracts worth RM130.75 million.
Opportunities were also identified during the delegation’s meetings
with Myanmar Payment Union, a consolidating body that governs
Myanmar’s Automated Teller Machine, Yatanarporn Telepost, the
nation’s main internet service provider, Central Bank of Myanmar and
the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. Projects
identified were in the development of an e-Visa system for tourism,
bank card services, biometrics development in education, training
services in IT security, development of a hospital information system
for local private hospitals, online transaction system and payment
gateway as well as data services for internet and mobile systems.
